In The Works

A new works development initiative

In The Works is an initiative that supports the development of new plays.

Under this initiative, playwrights are provided with studio space, workshop resources, dramaturgy and support to develop their work from the page to our stage.

Journey to the Centre
of the Earth

Co-created & Directed by Colin B. Anthes
Co-created & Performed by Rob Feetham
Access Dramaturgy & Coordination by Mandy E. MacLean

Journey to the Centre of the Earth was created with support from Crossroads Theatre, Roseneath Theatre, Suitcase in Point and the Ontario Arts Council

This 60-minute, high-energy, wordless adaptation of the Jules Verne classic transforms the stage with just one performer and a single chair. Through movement, physical storytelling, and raw theatricality, audiences are taken on an unforgettable - and wordless-  adventure deep into the earth’s core!

The Studio Accelerando team has been using the Crossroads Theatre studio to further develop this piece, working with Artistic and Access Producer, Mandy E. MacLean to explore how the piece lands with young audiences. From April 28th to May 2nd, 2025, we’re hosting a series of performances at The Rockport Hall in Weston Commons (34 John St Unit B, Toronto, ON M9N 0B2). As part of this process, we’re inviting local youth to experience the piece - and even contribute to its development! All week, the feedback of our young audiences will be directly integrated into the work, influencing a new subversive and accessible piece of Canadian professional theatre in real-time!

Join us for a final cumulative sharing of Journey!

The Book of Kit and Mel

By Deivan Steele and Garry Williams

The Book of Kit and Mel, by Deivan Steel and Garry Williams, was in development with Shakespeare in Action from 2021 until 2023. The Book of Kit and Mel is an original TYA musical that introduces the language and stories of Shakespeare through the lens of two young orphaned sibling musicians, Kit and Mel. Through the course of their adventure exploring some of the Bards most well-known motifs, Kit and Mel wrestle to find their own unique voices and identities as artists and as young human beings stepping into a chaotic world.
