Between the Lines
November 29th, December 6th & December 13th
10:00am - 1:00pm
Facilitated by Martin P. Gomes
Ages 16-20
Crossroads Theatre Studio
Between the Lines is a workshop led by spoken word artist Martin P. Gomes, focused on engaging with your city through an artistic lens. Through this workshop, participants will learn about their city’s history in various ways - through archives, poetry, and even simple city walks.
Participants will be asked to interview a local legend in their community and highlight how they hold the story of a space - our bus drivers, convenience store clerks, movie theatre ticket cutters, and more. Course participants will learn to look between the lines to find the beauty and humanity of our great city.
Over the course of three sessions, participants will explore their neighbourhood and craft a piece of writing that serves as an archival reflection of Toronto’s culture. The final session will offer interested participants the opportunity to perform their pieces for each other and for Crossroads’ invited guests.
Between the Lines is open to any young person aged 16–20 who is interested in creating work and learning more about their city! (Only 6 spots available!) Participants will be offered a $100 honorarium/artist fee for their work at the end of the program!
Applications for this program are now closed.
